Redress Scheme
Applications for Redress payments closed on 30 September 2008.
No further applications can be received, however additional supporting information to support Level 2 claims can be submitted up to 1 December 2008.
The Redress Scheme was established to provide ex gratia payments to people who experienced abuse and neglect as children in Queensland institutions. The payments recognise the harm suffered by these people and aim to help them move forward with their lives.
Up to $100 million is available for payments, access to legal and financial services for eligible applicants, and practical assistance in completing applications.
Level 1 payments are being made progressively, however a large volume of applications has been received. Consequently, it may take some time to process an application. Priority is given to applicants aged over 70 years or people who have a life-threatening illness.
Updates are not available about how individual applications are progressing. When an application has been assessed for eligibility, the applicant will be contacted by the Department of Communities.
