What we do
The Department of Communities is a human services agency that performs a range of support functions to nurture strong Queensland communities.
The people that benefit from the services we support or provide include:
- neglected or abused children
- young offenders
- older people
- volunteers
- people who are homeless or disadvantaged
- families experiencing domestic and family violence
- families in crisis or threatened by breakdown
- families using child care services
- families from multicultural backgrounds.
Through the delivery of these services, we contribute to Queensland Government policy priorities of protecting children and enhancing community safety, delivering responsive government, managing urban growth and building Queensland’s regions.
By contributing to these priorities, we are helping to achieve the outcomes established by the Queensland Government for communities that are safe and secure, fair, socially cohesive and culturally vibrant.
