Early Years Centres
The Queensland Government is establishing Early Years Centres at Nerang, Caboolture, Browns Plains and Cairns at a cost of $32 million over four years.
These centres will extend the services and support available for children and their families in these areas.
About Early Years Centres
The Early Years Centres will be ‘one-stop-shops’ where early childhood education and care, family support and health services are available for families expecting a child or with children aged up to eight years.
These services will be provided by experienced staff such as early childhood educators, family support workers and child health nurses, who will work with and provide support to parents and children.
The four Early Years Centres will also provide services from sites in neighbouring communities to families who are unable to access the centres or who prefer to go to a site closer to their home.
Children, parents and communities will all benefit from the Early Years Centres.
Children will have opportunities to:
- learn and play in a stimulating setting
- receive quality child health services, including specialist services when required
- access quality early childhood education and care services
- utilise services and resources at home, including toy library and outreach
Parents will be able to:
- receive parenting information, practical support and advice in the one location
- share ideas and experiences with other parents
- feel more confident and competent in their parenting role.
Communities will:
- be more child and family friendly, and supportive of parents in their nurturing role
- have a reduced need for intensive and expensive services over the long term.
