Minister's Foreword

Warren Pitt
Minister Nelson-Carr

The Eat Well Be Active - Healthy Kids for Life magazine is part of the Department of Communities' contribution to the Queensland Government's strategy to achieve healthy weight in young Queenslanders.

Primarily for parents and carers, this publication focuses on the small changes you can make to encourage your children to eat well and be active every day.

These pages provide facts and practical tips on nutrition and physical activity, referral information, helpful resources, web sites and even some recipes and games.

There is so much information in the community on the subject of nutrition and physical activity. Eat Well Be Active - Healthy Kids for Life brings together key advice from both government agencies and community organisations. I encourage you to use this information to develop your own action plan for your family to eat well and be active.

There is no single action that will stop and then reverse the increasing rates of childhood overweight and obesity. It will take a community, working together. I am fully committed to working with other government agencies and the community to ensure the health and wellbeing of our children.

Together we can support our children and create healthier communities.

Lindy Nelson-Carr
