Children 4-12 years
Parent tips sheets will provide information on children's pocket money, the internet and much more.
Growing and learning in the family
The first and most important learning in a child's life happens within the family. Children learn from the way people treat them and from what they see, hear and experience as soon as they are born. Children are natural learners and between birth and five years they grow and learn at the fastest rate of their lives. It is easy to see the enormous opportunity parents, and those who care for children, have in these early years to help shape children's learning before they start school.
Pocket money
Pocket money is an issue that often concerns parents. To a large extent it depends on family values and finances, but there are some general points that you might like to consider in making your decision.
Children and the internet
The Internet is an amazing invention. It is an attractive and fun new way of providing information, dazzling pictures and incredible opportunities for learning. Some benefits of being connected to the Internet include access to educational games and programs, research information for school projects, communication with people from around the world and share resources and ideas with people of similar interests. Most children at some stage will have some sort of contact with the Internet.
It wasn't me! - children lying
When children don't tell the truth it can be very worrying for parents. It is easy to become upset about the lie and to overlook what it means to the child. There are many reasons why children may not tell the truth. Almost everyone tells lies from time to time for a variety of reasons, from avoiding hurting someone else's feelings to getting out of an awkward situation. It is important to understand the reasons why a child might lie before you react.
