The Department's role
The Department of Communities is working with the Cherbourg, Palm Island, Mornington Island and Coen communities to:
- develop a true picture of the services needed in each community
- develop a culturally sensitive service that reflects each community's needs, to reduce the impact of domestic and family violence on children and young people
- provide a community response to the safety of children and young people exposed to domestic and family violence
- support community members to build on and develop the necessary skills to manage the impact of domestic and family violence
- help strengthen families and support community parenting capacity to contribute to building safer communities.
