Search instructions
- Search for:
Type a word or phrase into the 'search for' field and and press the 'Search' button for a quick search of all documents on the Communities Internet web site. NOTE: The exact word or phrase will be searched. If you type in a phrase, the words will be searched together in the order specified. (e.g. youth worker will not match youth justice worker)- To match all entered terms in any order, type each word and separate them with 'AND'. (e.g. youth AND services will match 'Youth At-Risk Outreach Services')
- To match any entered terms in any order, type each word and separate them with 'OR'. (e.g. mother OR mum)
- Across:
Select one or more parts of the document that you want to search across:- Full text - Anywhere in the full text of the document
- Title - In the document title
- Keywords - Within the document keywords
- Within:
Select one or more collections of documents that you would like to search within (All pages on the Communities Internet web site are searched over by default):- Communities Internet
- Future Directions (NOTE: This is a sub-collection of Communities Internet)
- Include document types:
Select one or more document types that you want to search for. Available types include:- HTML (web page)
- PDF documents
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Format results:
- Summaries: Select 'Show' to display a summary from the document in the search results. Select 'Hide' to show only the titles in the results list.
- Results per page: Select the number of results to be returned per page: 10; 20; 50. Note: 10 results per page will load faster than 50. Each page will have an option to continue to the next page of results.
- Sort by: Select a sorting option for the search
results:
- Score - the best (most relevant) results are listed first
- Title - alphabetical order by the title of the document
- URL - alphabetical order by URL (web address)
Improve search results
You can improve the accuracy of your search by using the following search functions.
- Pay attention to the order in which the words or phrases are typed; this will affect the search results.
- To find a document when you are unsure of the spelling or term: Add an asterisk * to the search word (e.g. gov* - this will produce results containing government, governing).
- To find a specific phrase: Type the exact phrase in double quotes (e.g. "protective services").
- To find a document that contains any combination of several words: Type each word and separate them with 'AND'. (e.g. foster AND children)
- To find a document which contains a specific word or phrase, and which also excludes a specific word or phrase: Type the required words or phrase and separate them with 'NOT' (e.g. mother NOT mum).
- To find a document that contains either one of two specific words: Type each word and separate them with 'OR'. (e.g. mother OR mum)
- To refine your search further: Combine any of the search functions.
