Muslim Youth Worker Program

The Queensland Government is working to ensure that all community members feel accepted and respected.

In July and September 2005, the Queensland Government met with Muslim community leaders to identify and address a range of issues. The Premier announced the Muslim Community Engagement Strategy in October 2005, to reflect the outcomes of these meetings. Under this initiative, $700 000 will be spent over two years to continue to promote positive community relations with the Muslim Community.

The Muslim Youth Worker Program, coordinated by the Department of Communities, is an important component of this strategy. This program will ensure that Muslim young people in the greater Brisbane region have opportunities to engage with the broader community. The project also aims to reduce young people’s experience of isolation and marginalisation while supporting their chosen faith.
