Schoolies Week
The Queensland Government recognises the need for young people to celebrate the significant achievement of finishing school and is committed to ensuring these celebrations are safe. The government's 'Three Point Plan' for Schoolies identifies the following three key elements necessary to improve safety during this week-long event, and reduce the impact on local communities that host Schoolies celebrations:
- better coordination through partnerships
- increased safety
- increased awareness of rights and responsibilities.
In 2006, Department of Communities provided a total of $91,000 in grants to local community organisations for projects that helped support the coordination of safe schoolies celebrations across Queensland.
