Promoting safety
In Queensland, the Gold Coast has long been a venue for schoolies’ celebrations, with the number of young people drawn to the area growing to the tens of thousands from the late 1990s. End of school celebrations are also growing in a number of other areas across Queensland.
The Queensland Government does not fund this phenomenon, rather, through the safer schoolies initiative, the Queensland Government funds community safety responses across the state.
Community safety responses for schoolies need to be safe – both for schoolies and the communities that hosts them.
Communities, community groups, local and state governments and other stakeholders have a shared responsibility to optimise safety and security and minimise risks associated with Schoolies.
