You could be a foster carer

Video begins with a mum and dad sitting on the back deck of their home, children playing in the backyard.

Mum: What about fostering a child?

Dad: Yeah, I think we can really do this.

The children run from the backyard towards the parents. Faintly we hear one of the children say “Dad! C’mon!”

He touches mum’s arm affectionately as he gets up to join the children before saying, “Alright, let’s go,” to the children.

The camera zooms in to the mum who starts to look a little concerned. Thoughts appear around her head as her voice reads them aloud:

Mum: What if we can't fit it in? What if we can't care full time? What if we can't give enough? What if we're not ready to foster a child?

She brings her phone up and looks at it. An internet search icon appears on the screen, with the words “Foster care QLD” typed out.

The scene changes to the mum sitting at a table with a laptop. The dad comes to join her. She’s talking on the phone. The scene continues to change to show the parents doing training and the family preparing for the arrival of a foster child as the voiceover reads: You don't need to have it all figured out. There's support, training, and flexible care options to fit your life. They just need you. Search “Foster care Queensland”.

The final scene shows a support worker holding the hand of a small boy, leading him towards the family as they come outside to greet him warmly.

The words “You could be a foster carer” appear on the screen before the Queensland Government logo and Authorised by the Queensland Government Brisbane screens end the video.

Children in care just need you

The video begins with a First Nations family, mum, dad and teenage daughter in a kitchen. The teenage daughter is showing her dad her mobile phone.

Dad: Fostering a child?

The daughter nods, and he replies with: Yeah.

Mum: Maybe now’s the time.

Dad: Yeah.

The mum and daughter leave the dad to his thoughts. The camera zooms in to the dad who starts to look a little worried. Thoughts appear around his head as his voice reads them aloud.

Dad: What if my family can't cope? What if I can't care full time? What if I'm not enough? What If we're not ready to foster a child?

He brings his phone up and looks at it. An internet search icon appears on the screen, with the words “Foster care QLD” typed out.

The scene changes to the dad sitting down looking at his phone, a smile on his face before the mum and daughter call him to join them on a call, and sit at the table on the back deck, in front of a laptop.

The scene continues to change to show the parents doing training and the family preparing for the arrival of a foster child, circling the date on a calendar as the doorbell rings. The mum reassures the dad as the daughter excitedly runs to the front door.

As these scene changes happen, a voiceover reads: You don't need to have it all figured out. There's support, training, and flexible care options to fit your life. They just need you. Search “Foster care Queensland”.

The final scene shows the family sitting down to a BBQ meal in the backyard, the teenage daughter welcoming another young girl to join them at the table.

The words “You could be a foster carer” appear on the screen before the Queensland Government logo and Authorised by the Queensland Government Brisbane screens end the video.
