About the council

The Queensland Disability Advisory Council (QDAC) provides independent advice to the Queensland Government on issues that affect people with disability.

QDAC brings together the views, experiences and expertise of Queensland’s disability community to help shape government policies, programs and services.

Its role is to provide advice to the Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, as well as the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety, to support better outcomes for people with disability across Queensland.

Term

Council members are appointed by the Minister for a term of up to three years.

Members

Council members are appointed by the Queensland Government to provide advice on issues affecting people with disability.

Members bring a range of lived experience, professional expertise and community perspectives to the Council, helping ensure the voices of Queenslanders with disability are reflected in its advice.

Eligible members may be paid for attending official Council meetings. Members can also be reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses related to their participation, in line with the Queensland Government’s remuneration procedures.

Activities

Council members:

• attend QDAC meetings
• provide advice on issues affecting people with disability
• engage with people with disability, community organisations and the disability sector
• review and provide advice on government policies and programs
• help ensure the views and experiences of Queenslanders with disability are considered in government decision-making
• undertake other activities requested by the Minister.

QDAC meetings are usually held four times a year. Meetings may be held in Brisbane or online.
