Our reform priorities
The Queensland Government is committed to restoring safety where you live and is taking strong action to address domestic and family violence (DFV).
Safer Families, Safer Communities: A domestic and family violence reform strategy for Queensland (the Strategy) outlines a whole-of-community approach to preventing DFV and supporting those affected.
The Strategy will drive a unified and integrated approach to reform across 4 priority domains:
- prevention of DFV before it starts
- early intervention with individuals, families and young people
- responses to persons using violence
- recovery and healing to support prevention.
It will be underpinned by the following system enablers—the foundational elements needed to support successful reform:
- accessible, accountable and collaborative service responses
- building DFV capability
- strong and effective DFV laws
- meaningful data and monitoring.
The Strategy will be implemented through 3 phases in line with 3 principles:
- accountability—of persons using violence, the community and the service system
- responsiveness—support for victim-survivors and persons using violence, wherever they are
- do what works—be led by evidence and lived experience.
Phase 1—Reset will prioritise the Queensland Government’s commitment to safer communities and lay the foundation for future reform.
Phase 2—Amplify and Phase 3—Sustain will work towards meeting the Strategy’s vision and reform objectives of:
- whole-of-community responses
- integrated services
- equitable services statewide
- quality data and system performance.
