Accessible Australia in Queensland
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are open for expanding the Accessible Australia initiative into Queensland. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and inclusion in community spaces across Queensland, supporting people with disability to participate fully in their communities.
About the initiative
The Accessible Australia initiative is a national program funded by the Australian Government to improve accessibility in public spaces for people with disability. With a $17.1 million investment to 2027–28 to increase inclusion in community spaces across Australia, the program supports the development of inclusive infrastructure in built and natural environments, such as buildings, playgrounds, beaches, and parks.
The initiative builds on the earlier Changing Places program, which introduced larger, fully accessible toilet facilities for people with disability and their carers. Accessible Australia expands this vision by funding a broader range of inclusive amenities, including:
- fixed and portable Changing Places toilet facilities
- portable equipment for inclusive beaches (e.g. beach wheelchairs, floating wheelchairs and accessible beach matting)
- portable amenities for inclusive national parks (e.g. all-terrain wheelchairs and accessible paths)
- fixed inclusive play spaces (e.g. Liberty Swings and all-access spinners).
About the EOI process
Our department is conducting an EOI process to gain preliminary information from respondents regarding the service requirements outlined in the EOI guidelines, determine the level of interest to participate and identify potential projects that could align with any future funding opportunities that may be announced by the Australian Government.
Grant funding may support
