Join us this May, Domestic Violence Prevention Month, for a heartfelt Candlelight Vigil to be held on Domestic Violence Remembrance Day May 7. This meaningful community event aims to honor those whose lives have been taken due to domestic and family violence, stand in solidarity with survivors, and raise awareness to help end the cycle of violence. The vigil is a time for remembrance, reflection, and collective action. It offers a space for the community to come together in support of individuals and families affected by domestic violence, to mourn those whose lives have been taken, and to strengthen our shared commitment to prevention and justice. This event is open to all members of the community, including survivors, families, service providers, advocates, allies, and those wishing to pay their respects and show their support. We especially welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, multicultural communities, and people from the LGBTIQASB+ communities, acknowledging that domestic and family violence impacts people from diverse communities. Activities on offer: Candlelight ceremony—a moment of silence and lighting of candles in honor of victims and survivors; Guest speakers—Hear powerful messages from survivors, community leaders, and front line workers; Acknowledgement of Country—to pay respect to the Traditional Custodians of the land; Live music or cultural performance—reflective pieces to support a calming, respectful environment; Community activity—an opportunity for attendees to decorate or share their thoughts or write messages on pebbles which will be placed as a symbol of hope, healing, and remembrance; Refreshments—Light snacks and beverages.
