Ongoing intervention

Ongoing intervention occurs when a child or young person is in need of protection and we need to work with the child or young person and their family to meet their safety, belonging and wellbeing needs.

  • Case planning

Case plans are a written plan developed to address the safety, belonging and wellbeing needs of children in need of protection and subject to ongoing intervention.

  • Support service case

A support service case refers to providing, or helping provide preventative and support services to families.

  • Intervention with parental agreement

Intervention with parental agreement allows Child Safety to work with children and their families without a child protection order

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

We are committed to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to keep Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people safe within their own families and communities wherever possible. Find out how we do this.

  • Child Protection Order

If it has been assessed that a child or young person has been harmed or is at risk of harm and is in need of protection, we will apply for a child protection order, if needed. This will allow us to remain involved with the family for a period of time.

  • Family group meetings

A family group meeting is held by our department to develop a case plan when we believe that a child or young person is in need of protection.

  • Court processes

When a child or young person is assessed as being in need of protection, and a parent is not able and willing to protect them, an application will be made to the Childrens Court for a Court Assessment Order or a Child Protection Order.

  • Parents and families of children in care with a disability

Find out what we do to ensure children and young people in care with disability or developmental delay are able to access the NDIS and receive NDIS support.
