About the DFV Prevention Council

Domestic and family violence (DFV) in Queensland communities is unacceptable and must be stopped. That is why the government is taking action, delivering for Queensland with Safer Families, Safer Communities: A domestic and family violence reform strategy for Queensland.

The Queensland Government has locked in permanent funding for the Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Council (the Prevention Council), and has refreshed membership to 30 June 2030. Together the members bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership that will be instrumental in driving social change.

The Queensland Government established the Prevention Council to support greater community understanding about domestic and family violence (DFV) and to challenge the values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours that trivialise, excuse or perpetuate this abuse.

Working at the primary prevention level, the Prevention Council partners with government, business and community stakeholders to champion local community-led action and leadership in creating social change. Through enhanced education, understanding and proactive primary prevention responses, the Prevention Council supports all Queenslanders to play their part in preventing DFV.

Former Domestic and Family Violence Implementation Council

The Implementation Council oversaw the Queensland Government’s implementation of the landmark Not now, not ever: Putting an end to domestic and family violence in Queensland report (the report) from 2016 to 2019.
