Disability Royal Commission

Queensland Government response to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability

On 29 September 2023, the Australian Government tabled the Disability Royal Commission final report in the Australian Parliament.

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability's (the Disability Royal Commission) extensive findings and recommendations call on all governments and the wider community to improve service systems, legislation and policies that contribute towards violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability.

The Disability Royal Commission also recommended the Australian Government and all state and territory governments each publish a written response to its final report and provide updates on the implementation of the recommendations.

The Queensland Government remains committed to implementing the recommendations of the Disability Royal Commission. The updated Queensland Government response to the Disability Royal Commission (PDF, 1,430KB) (DOCX, 498KB) (Easy Read PDF, 4,112KB) (Auslan translation) sets out the Queensland Government’s refreshed commitments to disability policy and reform.

The Queensland Government also continues to deliver its commitments under Australia’s disability strategy 2021–2031.

The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety continues to work with other Queensland Government departments to drive reform implementation and promote transparent and accurate reporting.
